Seven Testimonies About a Past
documentary, 1h35', 2018
On October 12, 1941, the entire Jewish community of Câmpulung Moldovenesc, around 1,500 people - doctors, lawyers, teachers, craftsmen, merchants, clergy, children, parents, old people - were loaded into freight cars at Câmpulung Est station and deported to Transnistria. Three years later, only a third of them returned.
Curious to better understand what happened and to discover more about the Jewish settlers, I filmed a series of interviews in 2018, in Israel, with those who were children at the time. I was helped by a number of people in this endeavor, descendants of the old families, who feel, as I do, that the memory of this community must be saved, as much as is left of it: Dr. Dina Feldman, Gabriella Fainaro, Nathan Gartner and Eli Elrich.
